  1.                    SEARCHLIGHT Echomail Conference Rules

  4. The SEARCHLIGHT conference is an echomail-techonology conference for
  5. discussion of Searchlight BBS by Frank LaRosa, related door programs,
  6. and utilities. The conference was started in March of 1989 by Glen
  7. Johnson of 1:269/101 and currently originates from 1:2604/269@Fidonet. 
  8. The moderator is Wayne Robinson@1:2604/269 and the co-moderator is 
  9. Robert Hessler@1:2604/202.

  11. SEARCHLIGHT may not be ported to, or distributed in any form other than
  12. standard echomail technology without the express consent of the
  13. moderators. No exceptions. This is to ensure that Searchlight systems
  14. can receive the conference in a format in which they can process it.
  15. SEARCHLIGHT is a Fidonet conference and all gates into the echo must be 
  16. responsible for maintaining the observance of Fidonet policies by the
  17. participants in their respective networks.
  18.  
  19. SEARCHLIGHT is currently distributed via the "Fidonet Backbone", and
  20. should be available from your regular echomail feed. If it isn't,
  21. contact Wayne Robinson@1:2604/269@Fidonet for a feed.

  23. SEARCHLIGHT is currently gated into SL_Net, FamilyNet, and Rime. If you
  24. are unable to obtain a link in one of those networks, please contact the
  25. appropriate coordinator.

  27. The rules for conference participation are as follows:

  29. 1. Excessively annoying behavior will not be tolerated.
  30.  
  31. 2. No profanity.
  32.  
  33. 3. Off-topic messages are not permitted.
  34.  
  35. 4. Handles or aliases are not permitted. Conference participants must
  36.    use their real first and last names.
  37.  
  38. 5. SEARCHLIGHT may be made available to BBS callers, however, the sysop
  39.    of the BBS is responsible for the traffic leaving his system, and
  40.    entering the SEARCHLIGHT conference.
  41.  
  42. 6. Conference participants are expected to behave in a courteous manner
  43.    to his/her fellow participants, and act responsibly. Flaming,
  44.    intentionally insulting, or otherwise unnecessarily annoying other
  45.    conference participants is grounds for removal from the conference.

  47. 7. Be patient with new users. We were all new once.
  48.  
  49. 8. Questions regarding distribution of shareware utilities and programs
  50.    for SEARCHLIGHT via the Software Distribution System (SDS) should be 
  51.    forwarded via private network mail to Bill Walton@1:255/1. The
  52.    Software Distribution System and the Shareware Distribution Network
  53.    (SDN) have their own echo. If you wish to discuss SDS/SDN policy,
  54.    discuss it in the SDS/SDN echo and not here. For the closest SDS/SDN
  55.    system to your system, contact your network coordinator. There is also
  56.    a regional SDS/SDN coordinator each area of North America if your 
  57.    network coordinator can not help you.

  59. 9. Messages which contain high ASCII, ANSI, or the IBM only character set 
  60.    are by tradition not allowed in Fidonet, and are inconsiderate of users 
  61.    of non-IBM systems. Please only use the standard character set when 
  62.    posting messages in this echo.

  64. 10.No participant may receive this echo via more than one network at
  65.    the same time. This can cause dupes which costs money to all involved.
  66.  
  67. Those who choose to violate the rules of the conference will receive
  68. one warning from the moderator. Subsequent transgressions will result
  69. in removal from the conference.

  71. And lastly, like Policy 4 says, "Thou shalt not be excessively annoying,
  72. likewise, thou shalt not be too easily annoyed". The conference moderator
  73. will decide what qualifies as annoying behavior in the conference, so if
  74. you are offended by something someone said to you, complain to the
  75. moderator via netmail. Don't escalate the situation in the conference.
  76. Remember, it costs many people a lot of money to move echomail, so try to
  77. be brief, polite, and topical. Everyone will enjoy the conference more!
